Our Story

McLeod Health, a regional presence and predominant healthcare organization, is dedicated to patients and their families. Founded in 1906, McLeod is a locally owned, not-for-profit institution which features the strength of nearly 400 physicians on the medical staff and more than 1,400 nurses, in addition to modern facilities; premier technology; and a dedication to improving the health of the communities it serves. The staff of McLeod, composed of nearly 4,700 employees and 30 medical practices, considers its commitment to service a calling.

The total licensed beds for the McLeod Health system includes 616 beds. The 12-county area McLeod serves has a population nearing one million, more than one half of those patients coming from outside Florence County.

The diverse array of services offered allows McLeod to meet the unique healthcare needs of the Pee Dee region. This includes one of the nation's largest and finest hospital-based health and fitness centers, three dedicated open heart surgery suites, and a spacious outpatient center. All of these are added to the McLeod established Centers of Excellence in Heart, Cancer, Surgery, Neurosurgery, Emergency Services, Behavioral Health, Children's and Women's Services, Home Health and Hospice Services, which rival those found anywhere else in the nation.

Subspecialty services include acute care for infants and children in the McLeod Pediatric and Intensive Care Units as well as McLeod's medical provision to the region as one of four designated Perinatal Centers and a Level III Trauma Center. Services rendered in Rehabilitation and within the McLeod Diabetes Center broaden the range of care offered.
